Following today’s announcement by the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) that it will commence a reinvestigation of normal values of rebar products from Turkey, Catherine Cobden, President & CEO of the Canadian Steel Producers Association (CSPA) released the following statement:
“The CSPA commends CBSA on its reinvestigation of rebar products from Turkey. This is an important step to ensuring that steel that enters Canada does so fairly and shows all importers that CBSA enforces rules-based trade. Unfair imports damage the domestic industry, their employees, and communities. The enforcement of Canada’s strong trade remedy system is of critical importance to defending Canada’s interests, particularly at a time of significant global disruption.”
The Canadian steel industry is amongst the greenest in the world, paying high wages with strong labour practices and producing critical products for a variety of downstream sectors. As a world leader in both quality and environmental qualifications, Canadian steel must be able to compete fairly in our domestic market.
