Following yesterday’s announcement by the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) that it will commence a reinvestigation of corrosion-resistant steel sheet normal values from companies in China, Taiwan, India, and South Korea, Catherine Cobden, President & CEO of the Canadian Steel Producers Association (CSPA) released the following statement:
“The CSPA thanks CBSA for reinvestigating the corrosion-resistant steel sheet normal values. The normal value system is critical to defending the Canadian industry and our workers from the damage of steel dumping. Constant vigilance and timely enforcement actions are key to preventing unfair trade from all countries and ensuring a fair market for Canada’s green steel.
“Canadian steel is amongst the greenest in the world and our members have announced investments that will further cut the industry’s emissions by 45%, by 2030, with a goal of net-zero by 2050. Canadian steel must be able to meaningfully participate in our domestic market, especially as we continue our path to decarbonization. When we create fair conditions for Canadian steel we are contributing to Canada’s competitiveness and climate ambitions.”
