Following today’s announcement by the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) that it will commence a reinvestigation of corrosion-resistant steel sheet normal values originating in or exported from Turkey and Vietnam, Catherine Cobden, President & CEO of the Canadian Steel Producers Association (CSPA) released the following statement:
“The CSPA applauds the CBSA for reinvestigating the corrosion-resistant steel sheet normal values and export prices from these two countries. This move is another in a series of recent actions that demonstrates Canada’s strong commitment to enforcing and evolving Canada’s trade defences to protect the domestic steel market and steel workers from the devasting impact of unfairly traded steel.”
“Canadian steel is amongst the greenest in the world and announced investments by steel producers will cut the industry’s emissions by a further 45% by 2030. The need to maintain our rigorous trade defences could not be more urgent. As the steel industry follows its path to decarbonization, Canadian steel must be able to meaningfully participate in our domestic marketplace through fair trade practices. Creating these fair conditions for Canadian steel contributes to both Canada’s competitiveness and climate ambitions.”
