September 26, 2024 - CSPA members from across Canada declare their strong support for the
implementation of targeted tariffs on Chinese excess capacity and have signed on to this
important release to signal their endorsement.
The industry recognizes and appreciates the efforts by the Government to implement a
proactive approach to protect this vital and strategic industry from unfair trade practices and
align with our most important trading partner, the United States.
“These tariffs are critically important to supporting a fair and secure supply of steel throughout
North America,” said Catherine Cobden, President and CEO of the Canadian Steel Producers
Association. “Our members, who play a significant role throughout Canada’s manufacturing
sector, are completely aligned and are appreciative of the efforts of the Government and all
Parliamentarians in protecting the jobs, families and communities that rely on a vibrant and
strong Canadian steel industry.”
The CSPA is the national voice of the Canadian primary steel and Pipe and Tube industry with
members operating in six provinces including Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Ontario,
Quebec, and Newfoundland and Labrador. The steel industry represents 123,000 direct and
indirect jobs and contributes 15 billion dollars annually to the Canadian economy.
